The IS220PDIOH1A is a highly integrated discrete input/output (I/O) module designed by GE for its Mark VIe Speedtronic series of control systems. As a vital component of a distributed control system (DCS), this module is primarily used to acquire digital signals from field devices and output control signals based on instructions from the control system, serving as a critical bridge between field devices—such as sensors and actuators—and the control system.
Commonly referred to in the industry as "PDIO" (Discrete I/O Pack), the module's core design philosophy is to highly integrate both digital input and digital output functions onto a single PCB, providing a one-stop solution for acquiring data from and controlling field devices such as contacts, solenoid valves, and alarms. It exchanges data in real time with the Mark VIe controller via dual 100 Mbps full-duplex IONet Ethernet, ensuring extremely short response times.

At a certain power plant, the use of this module to monitor real-time performance data from the steam turbine has significantly improved the level of operational monitoring. By collecting various operating parameters from the steam turbine, the module provides accurate, real-time data support for the control system.

1. Install the Terminal Board: Securely install the selected terminal board (TDBS or TDBT)
2. Insert the Module: Insert the PDIO I/O package directly into the terminal board connector
3. Mechanical Securing: Secure the module mechanically using the threaded studs next to the Ethernet ports; the studs slide into the corresponding mounting brackets on the terminal block
4. Connecting Ethernet: Connect one or two Ethernet cables. When using a dual connection, ENET1 is typically connected to the R controller's network
5. Connecting Power: Connect the three-pin power connector to a power source to supply power to the module
6. Software Configuration: If necessary, use the ToolboxST program to configure the I/O package
