The GSI130 244-130-000-204 is a Galvanic Separation Unit from the GSI 122/130 series. This module is used to power sensors and signal conditioners and to read their output signals; it is primarily used in two-wire transmission systems.
The unit's core function is to provide galvanic isolation between the measurement point and the signal processing equipment. It prevents problems caused by voltage differences between the measurement point and the signal processing equipment, such as earth loops.
In older vibration monitoring systems, sensors or conditioners are often installed in the field, while signal processing equipment is located in a control room or electronics room. A ground potential difference may exist between the two, leading to noise, drift, or false alarms in the vibration signals. The GSI 130 breaks this conductive path through electrical isolation, resulting in more stable signal transmission.

- Note Version Differences: The documentation specifies that DC level adjustment is 'GSI 122 only'; when maintaining the GSI130, do not mistakenly adjust features that do not exist on this model.
- Cleaning and Heat Dissipation: Keep the module surface clean to prevent dust accumulation and moisture from causing a decline in insulation.
- Spare Parts Management: As the GSI130 is an older model, it is recommended to keep an adequate supply of spare parts for critical applications to avoid prolonged downtime in the event of a failure.
- Certification and Safety Assessment: If used in potentially explosive atmospheres or safety-related circuits, verify after maintenance that the certification boundaries and system safety integrity remain unaffected.
In steam turbine vibration monitoring, on-site CA series accelerometers or related controllers are installed near the bearing housings, and the signals must be transmitted over long distances to the monitoring rack in the electronics room.
Because there are many high-power devices in the plant, ground potential differences introduce noise into the signal chain. By incorporating the GSI130 into the signal chain, galvanic isolation is achieved between the measurement point and the signal processing unit, the ground loop is broken, and the vibration signal stabilizes.
