The EI813F is an Ethernet module designed specifically for the ABB Freelance AC 800F controller. It establishes a network communication link between the controller and operator stations, engineer stations, or third-party devices. It is inserted into an AC 800F rack slot and communicates with the PM 802F or PM 803F processor module via the backplane bus.

The module's core function is to facilitate data exchange between the controller and the system bus. The internal LAN controller preprocesses data for transmission and reception in accordance with Ethernet standards and synchronizes with the main processor via DMA control signals and interrupt signals, thereby significantly reducing the main processor's workload.

In a factory retrofit project, it is necessary to integrate data between the existing Freelance AC 800F control system and the newly deployed PCS 7 system (AS 417-4). The solution uses the EI813F module to connect the AC 800F controller to the industrial Ethernet and enables data exchange between the two systems by configuring a UDP connection.

On the Freelance side, the EI813F communication module and transmit/receive function blocks were configured, while on the PCS 7 side, the FC50 "AG_LSEND" and FC60 "AG_LRCV" function blocks were called. This solution enabled data interoperability between cross-vendor control systems while retaining the existing equipment infrastructure, thereby saving both the cost and time associated with a complete system replacement.

• Does the EI813F require a separate power supply?
  No. The module is powered by the AC 800F rack backplane (24 V DC) and does not require an external power supply.
• What communication protocols does the module support?
  It supports TCP/IP, UDP, and Modbus/TCP. Some documentation mentions support for Profinet, but this must be confirmed based on the actual firmware version and system configuration.
• Does the module have its own battery?
  No. The EI813F does not contain a battery. The main memory battery backup function is supported by the battery on the PM 802F/PM 803F side; you should periodically check the status of the PM module's BATT LED.
